Many concerned investigators are investigating the motive of the murder of Abrar Fahad, a student of Bangladesh Engineering University (BUET). They have confirmed much of who was involved in the killings, how long Abrar died in torture, and whether anyone was falling from the backseat. In the meantime, one of the arrested was admitted to the court. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) has arrested three more suspects in connection with the incident. They are Abrar’s roommate Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Chhatra League leader Amit Saha and Ezhar’s accused Hossain Mohammad Toha.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said at the secretariat yesterday that the chargesheet for the murder of BUET student Abrar Fahad will be submitted soon. We hope to be able to issue a full charge sheet in this case in a very short time. Our police are doing this, so that the charge sheet is perfect, everything is perfect. Citing the Prime Minister’s statement, the Home Minister said, “We are the toughest and hardest to deal with the miscreants, who cause these factories, they have nothing to do with politics.” He also said that every student, whether there is any information or anything, should be brought under scrutiny. We are acting as per the directive of the Prime Minister.
Replying to a question on ‘Torture Cell’ and ‘Ragging’ in the university hall, Asaduzzaman Khan said, “I think there is more culture in BUET.” We saw more of it in BUET. I saw some at Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka University I think not much. I think the university authorities should think about how to get out of this culture. Responding to a question regarding the campaign against corruption, the Home Minister said that there was no shortage, the Prime Minister made a nice exposition yesterday (Wednesday). After that I have nothing else to say. He said that they have gone beyond the level recently. The Prime Minister is taking action and giving instructions. In a press conference at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media center regarding the arrest of the last three in connection with the murder of Abrar, DMP’s Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam said that there was no name in Ezhar, but there was preliminary evidence of their involvement in the investigation. That is why they have been arrested. The 10 BUET students, who were arrested in the first round with the help of interrogation and information technology, were also confirmed to be involved in the murder. Monirul Islam said Amit Shah may not have been present at the scene. But in the initial investigation, he has indirect liability, even though Abrar’s murder is not directly. It has emerged through investigations, surrounding conditions and information technology. Asked about the motive in the killings, he said, “This is the main point of our investigation.” If the information we initially received was not found in the next investigation, we do not want to say about the motive right now.
Three people were arrested yesterday and a total of 16 were arrested in the case. However, sources related to the investigation confirmed that Sakhawat Iqbal Abhi was detained for not getting involved in the incident. Amit, a law enforcement deputy secretary of BUET Chhatra League, was arrested from a relative’s residence in Sabujbagh area around 11am yesterday. His roommate Mizanur Rahman was arrested from Shrebangla Hall around12pm. Mizan is a third-year student in the Department of Water Resources Engineering at BUET. Hossain Mohammad Toh, the accused in the case, was arrested from Mauna in Gazipur at around 3 pm yesterday. The second-year student of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Toha used to live in room 221 of Sherbangla Hall. At the press conference, the DMP’s intelligence chief said. Abdul Baten, Joint Commissioner (Crime) Krishna Padam Roy and other senior officials were present at the DMP headquarters.
Acknowledgment in court: Iftikhar Musharraf (21), accused in the murder case of Abrar, made a confessional statement in court this morning. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury recorded his statement yesterday. He was later sent to jail. Ifti was the Deputy Social Services Secretary of the Chhatra League BUET branch. He is the son of Fakir Mosharraf Hossain of ward 1 of Rajbari Sadar. Ifti lived in Room 2011 of Sher-e-Bangla Hall and was a student of the 16th batch of Biomedical Engineering.
