An elderly man named Rashida Khanam (66) was strangled to death in Sirajganj town. Sadar Police Station Inspector Rafiqul Islam told bdnews24.com that the incident took place at his residence in front of Sonali Bank adjacent to the intersection of the city on Monday night. The deceased Nazma Begum is the wife of the late freedom fighter Tojammel Haque Master of the area.
The deceased, Rashida Khanam, retired five years ago after working as a field worker at the Sialkol Union Family Planning Office in Sadar Upazila. He has two sons and one daughters. The daughter is married. He lived in his home with his family of 2 sons. His younger son, Nishad Babu, lives in Dhaka for job security. The elder son, Nahid Imran Neon, a health proprietor at the Sialkol Community Clinic, was staying at home with his mother.
Inspector Rafiq said that the body of the deceased was sent to Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hospital morgue after the body was recovered. It is not known what caused the murder. However, the deceased’s elder son Nahid Imran Neon has been absconding since the incident.
On receiving the news, Sirajganj Superintendent of Police Hasibul Alam visited the spot. At that time, he said that the woman had been strangled to death with a knife slaughtered by a cow. A murder knife was recovered from the victim’s bed and criminals were recovered at the scene. Hopefully, it will be possible to identify the culprits quickly and bring them under the law.
